The technology behind skin resurfacing was developed at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School where Dr. Omar Ibrahimi was trained and currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dermatology.
The mildest form of skin resurfacing with the least downtime is achieved with non-ablative lasers. These lasers were designed to stimulate collagen growth in the skin, potentially resulting in a healthy glow and smoother texture. The laser energy may produce a wound healing response without injuring the skin surface, allowing for a faster recovery time in just 1-3 days.* A series of non-ablative laser treatments may also improve the appearance of fine lines, mottled pigmentation, melasma, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks and enlarged pores. These lasers include the pulsed dye laser (Candela Vbeam perfecta), the Spectra (a Q-switched laser), and the Fraxel Dual laser.
A stronger version of skin resurfacing is administered with ablative lasers. Ablative lasers may actually vaporize tissue in a precisely controlled manner to promote new collagen formation and skin rejuvenation. Because tissue is thought to be removed, the recovery time is longer than with non-ablative lasers and can range from a few days to a few weeks. Ablative lasers may improve scarring, moderate wrinkles, severe sun damage, moderate skin laxity, mottled pigmentation and cosmetic tattoos. We have an eCO2 laser that completes ablative fractional resurfacing and classical ablative resurfacing.
Dr. Omar Ibrahimi is one of the most experienced providers of laser skin resurfacing in the country. We are also one of the only offices that carries the full spectrum of lasers for skin resurfacing in the state. We will choose the best laser for your problems and lifestyle, rather than the approach most offices take, which is to use the one or two lasers they have on every problem.
If you live in Stamford or Fairfield County, Connecticut, we recommend you seek a consultation with our team to determine if skin resurfacing or ablative/nonablative fractional resurfacing would be of benefit for your skin treatment goals. We carry the Fraxel laser, also known as the Fraxel Dual.
