How Does Fraxel Work?

Developed by Harvard scientists, the Fraxel laser system uses a fractionated laser to penetrates below the surface of the skin with thousands of microscopic laser columns. Unlike ablative lasers that remove the outermost layer of skin, fractionated lasers are gentler. Its microscopic laser columns treat a fraction of the skin’s surface, allowing the surrounding tissue to remain intact. Compared to skin resurfacing treatments using ablative, CO2 or erbium lasers, Fraxel minimizes trauma to the skin, greatly reduces downtime and significantly decreases the risk of adverse reactions.¹

Laser skin resurfacing rejuvenates the skin in many ways. In a process known as “controlled wound healing” microscopic laser columns warm the deeper layers of skin with thermal energy to create microscopic injuries. While these microscopic injuries are superficial, they still trigger skin’s healing mechanisms. The body responds by producing new cells to resurface the skin (improving tone, texture, and hyperpigmentation) and increases the production of collagen to remodel the damaged tissue (improving fine lines and wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.)¹

Scientific Fraxel Reviews

Fraxel reviews published in medical literature scientifically proves that laser skin resurfacing with fractionated laser technology really works. One study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology stated fractionated laser technology “has been a revolution in the field of lasers.” The study explains that fractionated lasers “produce an injury pattern to the skin with skip areas repeated over and over again, which, as they heal, promote an improvement in the tone and texture of the skin, in lines and wrinkles, in pigmentary concerns including melasma, and in scars, especially acne and traumatic scars.” ¹ Researchers published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal noted the “skip areas” that preserve the outer layer of skin, distinguish Fraxel from traditional ablative lasers. They conclude, “Compared with other classical approaches, fractionated lasers have the advantages of no recovery time, no open wound, few non-responders, few complications, and the ability to be used in all skin types.”²

What Areas Can Fraxel Treat?

The gentle nature and super precision of fractional, non-ablative laser technology can treat sensitive areas such as the neck and chest, rejuvenate the hands, and target fine lines around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet.

What Skin Conditions Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Fix?

In addition to rejuvenating the skin, laser skin resurfacing is  clinically proven¹ and FDA cleared  to repair various types of skin damage including:

  • Pigment irregularities like brown spots and freckles
  • Melasma, also known as the mask of pregnancy
  • Scars, especially acne scars
  • Large pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Stretch marks
  • Irregular skin texture
Fraxel Results*

Fraxel results are both immediate and progressive. In the days following your procedure your skin tone becomes more even, texture becomes softer and your complexion becomes more radiant.* As with any medical procedure, results may vary. However, progressive results typically appear within 3 to 6 months following your laser skin resurfacing treatment as your body produces more collagen to repair  skin damage and rejuvenate itself to look younger, healthier, and blemish free.*¹

To ensure the longevity of your results protect your skin from the sun and avoid any other extrinsic factors that cause to skin damage.
