UPDATE: As of 5/4/20, we are seeing patients in-office for issues/procedures that cannot be addressed through telemedicine. On 5/20/20, we plan to resume cosmetic services. We are following strict safety guidelines/social distancing, requiring all patients and staff members to wear masks, limiting the number of appointments per hour. If requesting an in-office visit, please read this screening questionnaire prior to the appointment.
Telemedicine Dermatologist Visits at CT Skin Institute
We are pleased to offer telemedicine dermatologist visits during the COVID-19 crisis.
What is Telemedicine? Telemedicine involves the use of electronic communications to enable health care providers to share individual patient medical information, for the purpose of improving patient care. The information may be used for diagnosis, therapy, follow-up and/or education, and may include patient medical records, medical images,or live two-way audio and video. Electronic systems used incorporate network and software security protocols therefore protecting the confidentiality of patient identification and imaging data. This includes measures to safeguard data and to ensure its integrity against intentional or unintentional corruption.
Types of issues that we can likely see virtually :
- Acne
- Bumps & Growths
- Dermatitis
- Dryness
- Eczema
- Melasma
- Nail Problems
- Rashes
Insurance & Reimbursement
Telemedicine for dermatologist visit charges are billed and collected in the same manner as regular in office treatments and estimated patient responsibility will be due prior to start of Telemedicine encounter. Final patient responsibility will be determined after charges are filed and processed by your insurance carrier(s). To determine how your insurance will process your claim, please call the customer service number on the back of the card and ask them regarding your specific telemedicine benefits for a dermatology specialist visit during COVID-19.
While many insurances in CT are covering telemedicine dermatologist visits during COVID-19 for existing patients (some are even waiving patient cost-shares) ,if your insurance doesn’t cover (please confirm with them prior to visit) or if you do not have insurance, the telemedicine dermatology visit cost is $150 for new patients and $100 for existing patients (varies for cosmetic consults). If your insurance requires a referral, please make sure you have one prior to the visit.
For visits through insurance, we do require a valid credit card to be left on file that we keep on a secured/encrypted system. Please make sure this is on file prior to the visit. For self pay visits, we collect the $150 (new) or $100 (existing) fee prior to the start of the visit.
Follow-up Visits
It is possible that during your visit through telemedicine dermatologist may determine that an in-office visit is required to further diagnose or treat the issue (i.e. if provider unable to access issue virtually) or if a biopsy/treatment is needed. If this happens, we will schedule you for the soonest date available based on when the provider is seeing in-office patients given the current COVID-19 environment.
