Dr. Omar Ibrahimi, board certified dermatologist of the Connecticut Skin Institute, was a presenting sponsor of the Moffly Media Women in Business event held at the Greenwich Country Club in Greenwich, CT on May 11, 2016. Dr. Ibrahimi gave a phenomenal talk on healthy skin, healthy you.  Dr. Ibrahimi is a strong believer in that to maintain beautiful skin, you need to make sure you maintain healthy skin.  Below are some highlights from the event including the topics Dr. Ibrahimi covered in his talk.
Small clip of Dr. Ibrahimi’s talk where he touches on what to look for in a SPF (we apologize in advance for the shaky video):
Dr. Ibrahimi’s talk focused on skin cancer and aging gracefully. Did you know that the incidence of skin cancer is greater than the incidence of breast, prostrate, lung and colon cancer combined? If you have fair skin, eyes or hair, you are at greater risk for skin cancer. Dr. Ibrahimi covered the following in his talk:
- Non-melanoma Skin Cancers
- Basal Cell Carcinoma
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- Mohs Surgery vs Excisions
- Melanoma
- Melanoma Outcomes
- Reconstructive Surgery
- Sunscreen: what to look for in sunscreen
- Photoaging/the aging process
- Lasers including Fraxel and Ultherapy
- CoolSculpting for non-invasive removal of fat through freezing
- Birthmark removal with lasers
- Kybella for neck/double chin
- Cellfina for cellulite
The ABCDEs of Melanoma:
Dr. Ibrahimi really emphasized on the ABCDEs of melanoma which are:
A -Asymmetry
B – Border and Bleeding
C -Color
D -Diameter > 6 mm
E – Enlarging, evolving
The so-called ABCDEs of melanoma have been an extremely useful heuristic for practitioners and laymen in identifying clinically suspicious lesions which suggest malignancy. In ambiguous situations, this doesn’t work as well. For example, it is very possible that just about every dermatologist could relate a story about a melanoma which exhibited none of the ABCDEs.
The event had women in business from all across Fairfield and Westchester Counties and beyond including folks from Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Westport, Weston, Wilton, Ridgefield, Danbury, Rye, Larchmont, and beyond.
